Ask an Expert

Q: I run a website selling goods to small businesses and sole traders, and I get a fair bit of traffic on it. As a result, a few people have asked if I’ll host job advertisements on it.  It seems like easy money, but I know someone in the recruitment business, who says that his company needs a license to advertise jobs. Will I need one to put up job ads for an outside party and, if so, how should I go about it?

A: You won’t need a license if you’re just putting up advertisements as, basically, you’re not a recruiter! It’s only when you start getting involved in vetting or interviews that a license is required. Just try to make sure that the agencies or companies that you’re dealing with are reputable: if they’re in any way dodgy, you should avoid tarnishing your own reputation for a relatively small part of your business.
